Update : use the dedicated covid portal for vaccine alerts https://vaccine.monal.im/

I’ve been testing a Massachusetts vaccine push system for the past few days and it seems to be working well. Six teachers I originally made this for have used it to get vaccine appointments with little to no effort. At the moment it checks every 15 min (I will make it faster in the future) and sends out messages with signup links for appointments in both state and retail pharmacy locations as soon as they are available. This is powered by XMPP instead of SMS so it doesn’t encounter the same throttling, spam filtering or costs associated with SMS. This allows me to send more notifications faster without incurring massive costs. In theory this is designed to scale up and could be used for multiple states by adding more AWS resources (powered by XMPP federation). I am planning on adding NY and CA next. I hope people find this useful. This was made possible by the fact that no one owns or controls the XMPP messaging network. I hope you stick around and explore it some more. Feel free to send a message to me at anurodhp@jabb3r.org

If you need to get vaccinated and qualify, follow the steps below:

  1. If you dont have an XMPP client get a free one. Use Monal for iOS and Mac, For Android use yaxim or blabber . Linux use Dino . Gajim on windows.
  2. When you start these apps you can sign up for a free account on the yax.im server. Do that and remember your id
  3. Go to the registration site and enter the account you made in step 2 as the Jid, fill-in your zip and make up a password. Click register.

4. Done. You should start receiving notifications from all over the state in about 15 minutes.

  1. Hi There,

Thank you so much for putting this together!

It’s strange when I click on the registration site link, I’m getting an application error and the page does not appear to be working.

When you have a chance, could you please assist with this?

  2. Thanks for letting me know! it should be working again. Something went bad with the restart after the last deploy just now
