  1. Hi,

I really like your app, Monal for iOS. I use it every day. Lately it’s gotten very slow to launch — 1-2 minutes. I would like to know if you’re aware of this issue, and see if it’s likely to be resolved. I would also like to donate because I use this app all the time.

    1. Hi,
Thanks for the kind words. I didn’t know about any slowdowns. I actually test on devices going back to the 3GS with iOS6. What phone were you using? What OS version. Was this while connecting to gmail or some other server? Do you have a lot of contacts?

      1. This is when connecting to my office’s IM system which uses XMPP. It takes about 45 seconds to load the list of contacts, and there are only about 50 of them.

        1. This nor normal. But i have seen issues with openfire server and lots of other windows users using digsby recently. Every time the computer sleeps its seems to cause another instance of the user to appear to be logged resulting in each user appearing to be logged in hundreds of times. When you do eternally login, could you click on the (i) next to another user and see how many resources it shows for them. That will give me some clues as to whether this is the same issue repeating itself or something new.

          1. Each user has about 6 resources allocated. Would it be possible for you to email me so I can send you screen shots or anything you need?

  2. Hi! Monal is definitely awesome. Thanks a lot!
What about OTR support? Wil you add it?
I’ll no longer need ChatSecure if Monal supports Off-the-Record.

    1. OTR is in the works. I wasn’t able to do in the past because adding OTR required the app to be open source. It is now so i should be able to add it.

      1. Thanks for your work and share! I love it!!!
Only few important XEPs are missing e.g. XEP-0313 and XEP-0363.

        1. Do you know if prosody is the only sever that support XEP-0313 and XEP-0363 at the moment? HTTP upload looks like its really trivial to add. I’ll check. It will probably end up in the mac app before the iOS one since I can put betas of that up pretty much every night.

  3. Hi again,

Updated to the latest version of Monal iOS and have a few issues to report.

-Load time is significantly better, now 25 seconds.
-conversations briefly pop up a “99” badge for 1-2 seconds the first time you look at active chats.
-The app was showing me notifications but not adding new text to the active chat; I had to uninstall and reinstall and it seems fine now.
-When replying from a notification, the text that I type in appears left-justified in a grey bubble when viewed in active chats (all my other replies appear right-justified and in a blue bubble)
-Entering more than two lines of type is a problem. Only the first two lines appear, the entry window does not enlarge or scroll.

    1. The UI glitch on entry is new. I didn’t notice it in testing, I think it might be an ios9 change.

    1. Assuming you are logged in and the app is running.
      1) a notification generated by iOS
      2) in the chat you are talking
      3) in a notification generated by the app that shows up on top
